Introduction: Pericardial effusion is defined as the abnormal accumulation of fluid in the pericardial cavity; there is no clear epidemiological data in Chile. Objective: To determine the hospital discharge rate (HED) due to non-inflammatory pericardial effusion during the period 2020-2023 in Chile. Methodology: Observational, descriptive, and quantitative study with statistical data from the Department of Health Statistics and Information and the National Institute of Statistics. The analysis was carried out with measures of central tendency, supported by graphs and tables with Excel analytical software. Ethics committee approval was not required. Results: The highest HED was during 2023 with a value of 1.71/100,000 inhabitants. The female sex presented the highest HED of the period with 1.85/100,000 inhabitants. In relation to the average number of days of hospitalization, 2020 was the year with the highest average, being 12.92 days. Discussion: The increase in EH could be related to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The highest EH was in women and adults over 65 years of age. This could be associated with a higher presence of endocrine pathologies and comorbidities, which are one of the main causes of pericardial effusion. Conclusion: It is evident that there are risk groups associated with this pathology; we recommend conducting further research that addresses a greater number of variables.
